Soft Power Index

Hard problems are changing hands.

For decades, institutions carried the world’s hardest problems - health, education, hunger, and governance. As money, mandate, and multilateral will retreat from that role, something else has to hold the line. The Soft Power Index tracks who that is.

It scores over 50 non-state organisations, across 12 hard problem domains, against a single question: what still works when the money, the founder, and the special conditions are all taken away. Most organisations fail that test. The ones that pass it are the ones worth your attention.

What this gives you

If you allocate capital, sit on hard problems for a living, or are looking for where to deploy capital at scale, the Index is the compressed version of months of due diligence. It tells you three things a pitch deck won’t:

  • Which organisations have already reached the point where solving the problem is structurally cheaper than leaving it unsolved.

  • Which have the independence to keep compounding without one person, one grant, or one government holding them up.

  • Where the market position is still open, and where it has already closed.

A child learns to read for US$9. A woman recovers from clinical depression for $248. A single open data standard has generated US$8.7 billion in documented government savings. These are not case studies chosen to feel good. They are the evidence base for where capital can move with logic rather than conviction alone.
